Following the success of Gabriel Martinelli, plucked from Brazilian obscurity for £6m, it’s only natural Arsenal would turn their attention to the South American country once again.

The 19-year-old, currently recovering from a knee injury, took little time to adapt to Premier League football, and has already scored 10 goals and assisted another four in 26 appearances since his arrival.

Those are, coincidentally, the exact same statistics Gabriel Veron has at Palmeiras (albeit he took 29 games to get there), who so happens to be a player Arsenal are looking at.

That’s according to La Nazione, who cover the young Brazilian’s situation on Friday, as Fiorentina have also been brought into the mix.

The newspaper explain three big clubs, who are Manchester United, Arsenal and Juventus, are keeping tabs on the player, making life a bit awkward for La Viola, who are in need of a forward.

Furthermore, the cost of €25m needed to open talks with the Brazilian side is a bit out of the Serie A club’s reach, meaning they’re likely to focus on Krzysztof Piatek instead, who would cost €18m, contract included.

This leaves the three bigger sides to battle it out for the latest name to come out of the country, whom La Nazione describe as the ‘South American talent with the biggest prospect of landing in Europe’.

We’ll have to wait and see about that, but with Edu Gaspar now in charge of transfers at the Emirates, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Veron was somewhere on his compatriot’s list.
