Earlier on Monday, we covered a report from Gazzetta dello Sport that Arsenal had held a strong interest in 22-year-old Andrea Belotti over the summer.
The Premier League club were apparently prepared to make a €35m offer for the Torino striker, who is having an impressive start of the season with the Serie A outfit, but were kindly told to look elsewhere.
Valued at ‘well beyond’ €40m, Belotti’s form (eight goals in 11 appearances) has seen other clubs start to get interested in his services, including Liverpool.
That is, at least, what Il Messaggero are reporting on Monday in their print edition, claiming that both Liverpool and Arsenal (which backs up Gazzetta’s claims) are monitoring his progress alongside Thomas Tuchel’s Borussia Dortmund.
Liverpool, currently topping the Premier League after a great run of form under Jürgen Klopp, have relied on Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge to lead their frontline, while Danny Ings, the club’s other forward, recovers from yet another season ending injury, and Divock Origi warms the bench.
Belotti, who possesses both the ability to start and finish moves, could end up being a great investment for a lot of Premier League clubs, but Torino’s reluctance to see him go so soon after his arrival (summer of 2015) might prove a hindrance to the Anfield contingent.
That and the fact he’s one of their best players.
