As Benfica prepare for their trip to Glasgow this afternoon, Eagles’ defender Jarel has spoken to the Portuguese press about their upcoming game against Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.
The player was interviewed by Sportv to talk about the Rangers match which could be decisive for the final standings of Group D in the Europa League.
“With a lot of ambition, a desire to win, but without losing our head,” Jardel told Sportv (via Record).
Jardel also talked about the dramatic 3-3 draw in Lisbon, and claimed that manager Jorge Jesus has been trying to fix the issues from that game.
“We were reduced to 10 very early which made it difficult for us to face a quick attack. We worked hard this week to fix it, the mister has shown us many things.”
Benfica are set to miss nine players for the match against Rangers. Besides Nicolas Otamendi’s suspension, they also have four players injured, one who’s not registered for the match and three in quarantine following their Coronavirus diagnosis. Jardel spoke about these team issues as well.
“It is a complicated situation and we have to take the greatest possible care so that the smallest number of people are infected. We have three players in this situation, but I’m sure the group is very strong. We’re sad that we don’t have them but I am sure that whoever enters the pitch will help us.”
Manager Jorge Jesus is also set to talk to the local press today and give more updates on the team, as all other players were tested for Coronavirus again following Adel Taarabt’s positive result. The coach is set to use a few youngsters to complete the squad.
