Prolific enough at Marseille to catch the attention of Chelsea and make them spend €40m on his services, Michy Batshuayi remains a bit of an enigma.
Despite scoring a number of times when called upon, the striker has never managed to fully convince at Stamford Bridge, which has led him on many loans across Europe, ranging from Borussia Dortmund to Crystal Palace, where he has returned for the second time.
The Belgian forward is currently with his national team, called up by Roberto Martínez, and he took some time out of his busy schedule to sit down with RTL Sport, where he was asked whether or not he believes he’s made the right choice in returning to Selhurst Park.
He said: “I’m convinced, otherwise I wouldn’t have taken that decision, and even if I wasn’t, it’s a bit late for that (laughs). I’m at Crystal Palace, I’m looking forward, and I have to fight like everyone else to play, to have a spot in the team”.
However, he did say that if he could do things again, he would aim for more stability in his career.
He explained: “Of course, there’s choices I would’ve changed, that I wouldn’t have taken. That’s certain. There are small regrets, but you don’t have time to dwell on it. Look forward and the battle isn’t over”.
As for his current situation, where he’s once again loaned, he says it’s often out of his hands.
He said: “It’s frustrating, but I’m not the boss. There’s situations that are a bit complicated, and sometimes you don’t really want to think about them, you just want to be on the pitch, so that’s what I did”.
