There was an expectation for Milot Rashica to change clubs in the summer and suitors from England and Germany came forward to sign the Werder Bremen player.

Aston Villa showed interest in the 24-year-old and the Premier League side wanting the forward was confirmed by Werder Bremen chief Clemens Fritz in September.

Dean Smith’s side couldn’t complete the deal for Rashica and even Bayer Leverkusen failed to sign him in the final stretch of the last window.

After recovering from a knee injury, the Kosovo international has made three league appearances for Werder Bremen and is yet to score or register an assist this season.

This week’s edition of SportBild explains the attacker is ‘currently not helping’ the Bundesliga side and their ‘prospect of a double digit million income’ is declining.

However, that doesn’t meant Werder Bremen will not try to sell him in the winter market.

The magazine explains the German side need funds to ‘plug the holes’ created by the Coronavirus crisis, and even if Rashica is sold for a cheaper price in January, they will not reinvest those funds in strengthening the squad.

“It is not clear whether we will take action. Even if Milot were to leave it would not be automatic [that we make signings], because the financial situation will remain challenging,” Werder director Frank Baumann said.

Villa have an opportunity to take Rashica for a cheaper price in January and they could return for him in 2021.
