The agent for Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, Mátyás Esterházy, has confirmed that Arsenal’s interest in the Hungarian is real.
Szoboszlai is regarded as one of the most exciting young midfielders around at present, with the 20-year-old having impressed for the Austrian side over the past two years.
He’s racked up 32 assists and 22 goals in 73 games for the club so far, the kind of form that’s earned him attention from the biggest clubs in Europe if reports are to be believed.
It’s widely believed that he will be the next big transfer out of Salzburg and Arsenal have regularly been named as one of the club’s interested, although reports earlier this year suggested they were losing out to AC Milan.
Index explain that this week saw the Hungarian edition of Forbes holding a ‘podium discussion’ with business leaders from across the country and among them was Esterházy, who owns EM Sports Consulting Kft, Szoboszlai’s representatives.
Founded just three years ago they are not the largest Hungarian registered agency in football and Szoboszlai is their most famous client.
Anyway, the RB Salzburg midfielder did not really come up during the podium discussion, but the issue was brought up ‘outside in the hallway’ according to Index.
They say that Esterházy revealed that despite AC Milan’s interest being ‘reestablished’ in the press recently, he will not be signing for the Italian side despite having been close to an agreement twice.
Instead, he’s likely to end up elsewhere and on that front ‘Arsenal’s interest is real’ according to the agent, although he refused to disclose where the midfielder would end up.
Index believe he will end up staying in the ‘German-speaking world’, so perhaps a move to the Bundesliga in the January transfer window, suggesting Arsenal face a fight if they really do want him.
His agent’s comments would suggest that they do and with Milan now out of the way, the winter window could be the ideal time to make their move.
