Davide Torchia, the agent of Daniele Rugani, has revealed Juventus turned down approaches made by Arsenal and Chelsea for the defender.
The centre-back was on loan at Empoli for two seasons between 2013 and 2015 and on his return to the Turin club, he struggled for regular opportunities.
Rugani was restricted to only seven starts in the league last season and the lack of playing time saw the 26-year-old join Rennes on loan in the summer.
Some reports suggested the Italy international was valued at around €50m in the last window, but these claims have been dismissed by his representative during an interview with TMW Radio.
When further quizzed if the Old Lady ‘really turned down €40m’ offers for Rugani, Torchia talked about the proposals made by the Gunners and the Blues in the past for signing his client.
“At the time, Arsenal, Napoli, Chelsea, Zenit and Lyon arrived at around €30m and [they] were never taken into consideration. For those prices, Juve did not sell him, and I do not dispute whether they did right or wrong,” he said.
Torchia, however, doesn’t pinpoint when Arsenal, Chelsea and others made these offers for the player.
The agent also detailed another bid made by the Blues when Maurizio Sarri was in charge at Stamford Bridge.
“With Sarri at Chelsea, then there was an offer close to 40 million, and Juve said no there too. Also because they needed to understand who the substitute is and how much it costs. Now he has gone away on an onerous loan, and that’s the market,” Torchia explained.
“Many then criticised the excessive salaries, 3-4 million, but it is not true. Instead of taking the bait, you listen to certain serious broadcasts like this and maybe something comes out…”
