José Campaña was one of the many midfielders linked with a move to Leeds United as the transfer deadline moved in. The 27-year-old Levante player is living the highlight of his career, having been called up for the current Spain squad.
He’s currently being linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, with Diego Simeone’s side able to make an out-of-window signing. That’s after they lost Thomas Partey to Arsenal on deadline day, and because he moved via his clause it gives Atletico special dispensation under Spanish regulations.
According to the report, Campaña had been an option for the Premier League club, although not a priority one. When Michaël Cuisance’s transfer failed his name returned to the table.
Leeds then made one call, on deadline day, asking if Levante would be prepared to accept €15m plus bonuses. That was dismissed given there was no time for real consideration, and Campaña remained at the club.
Now Atletico have a chance, however, Super Deporte believe Levante won’t consider a sale now.
