West Ham United failed in their efforts in signing Standard Liège’s Samuel Bastien on the final day of the transfer window.
Het Belang van Limburg explains the Jupiler Pro League side had an ‘eventful deadline day’ and that’s when they talk about the approach made by the Premier League side for the midfielder.
It’s claimed the Hammers came in with a late bid for the 24-year-old and tabled an offer around €12m for the Belgian.
However, Standard Liège ‘refused’ the proposal made by David Moyes’ side.
Bastien, who primarily operates as a central midfielder, can also play as a defensive or attacking midfielder and has a contract until 2022. The Belgian side retains an option to extend it by a further 12 months.
He managed five goals and four assists in all competitions last season, and has two goals in two matches this term.
