Appearing on Téléfoot at the weekend, and explaining his situation a little bit, it seems Mamadou Sakho is still managing to keep a smile on his face, even if he isn’t playing at Liverpool.
The former Paris Saint-Germain defender has been frozen out by Jürgen Klopp at Anfield after failed drug tests and missed flights, and it appears that a move away from Liverpool in January is best for both parties.
However, as revealed by Mario Balotelli on Téléfoot on Sunday, the French defender, instead of trying to sort out his transfer over the summer, helped out a friend in need instead.
Explaining how the transfer from Liverpool to Nice came about in the first place, when clearly a return to Italy would have been a more predictable option, the Nice striker claimed it was all down to Mamadou Sakho.
He said: “I spoke with Mama. He told me that the French league was a good league for me to get back to my level, and then he gave me the number of Mathieu Bodmer. I spoke to Mathieu, and that’s how it all started.”
So, if it wasn’t for Mamadou Sakho, Jürgen Klopp might have struggled even more to get rid of Balotelli, a player he clearly didn’t want, from his Liverpool squad.
Maybe that could be enough to help the French defender get an appearance at Anfield in the near future, no?
