Nabil Bentaleb’s fortunes at Schalke, where he’s on loan from Tottenham, have changed so much so quickly that German newspaper Bild are largely having to ignore all the negative things they said about him previously, and pretend it never happened.
The young midfielder left Tottenham on loan during the summer transfer. Once one of Mauricio Pochettino’s favourites at Spurs, Bentaleb dropped out of the reckoning and a loan seemed to suit the player better.
Pochettino had strengthened an already strong midfield during the summer, and Tottenham didn’t really need Bentaleb to stick around.
Last month Bild reported that Schalke have an option to purchase the player permanently from Tottenham, and it sounds like the club’s captain Benedikt Howedes would back that plan.
Speaking to Bild, Howedes was asked about the recent impact of the Tottenham owned player, and said: “A very good player. He has an enthusiasm with which he can bring that little bit extra. To this end, he is our most dangerous man with four goals. This shows how important he has already become.”
Tottenham may well have seen the last of the once Pochettino favourite.
