While there is nothing official as of yet, it’s widely expected for Édouard Mendy to be a Chelsea player come the end of the transfer window.
Neither Rennes nor the Blues have said anything about an agreement, but there have been claims in France that a deal has been struck and the goalkeeper is on his way to Stamford Bridge.
The price is expected to be somewhere around €25m, and L’Equipe on Monday explain his move is now dependant on the medicals.
The transfer ‘should be made official mid-week’ as soon as he’s undergone the tests, ‘most likely within the next 48 hours’.
However, the ‘setting of the medical needs to be clarified’, mostly due to the fact the United Kingdom are still imposing a 14-day quarantine for people travelling from France.
It’s then stated Premier League clubs are currently asking to ‘find agreements’ so that players transferring to England’s top-tier could be exempt from this, which would, in turn, help speed up Mendy’s arrival and subsequent integration into Frank Lampard’s squad.
Either way, it seems the goalkeeper’s transfer is just around the corner, and Kepa Arrizabalaga will have to deal with extra competition for his starting position at Stamford Bridge.
