Barcelona are reportedly looking to sign a right back in the near future, and could turn their attention towards the Premier League.
Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin has often been linked to the Catalan giants, but latest reports suggest Southampton’s Cedric Soares could be a cheaper option.
According to Spanish daily AS, Barcelona officials were present at St.Mary’s in the match between Southampton and Inter to watch Soares in action. In the second Spanish report, after Sport also made the link.
However, Soares, who is recovering from a foot injury, didn’t feature in the game as expected.
AS say Claude Puel opted to leave Soares out of the squad, as he wants to keep him fresh for Premier League games.
Clearly AS and the Barcelona officials need to do their research. Either Soares is injured or rested, it can’t be both.
Moving on, it’s been reported Barcelona will continue to monitor Soares, and will try to take a closer look in the coming weeks. The 25-year-old is expected to be back in action after the international break.
The Spanish press haven’t spent too much time on the Soares link, and on Saturday the latest would be Barcelona right back is Valencia’s Joao Cancelo. It’s bad news if Barcelona are sniffing around for Soares but the good news is that right now he’s one of several targets, and certainly not the major one.
