Sunderland have been linked with a move for Anderlecht forward Frank Acheampong by the Belgian media. The Premier League side tried to sign his former club teammate Stefano Okaka in August before the Italian joined Watford.
Voetbal Nieuws have reported Sunderland are giving serious consideration to signing Acheampong in the next transfer window, and the North East side can land the Ghana international for a fee in the region of €3m.
David Moyes will be hoping to strengthen his attacking options in January with the club facing another relegation battle, and will see Acheampong as somebody who could provide much needed support for Jermain Defoe.
The former England international has struggled in recent weeks, and goes into this weekend’s game with a six-hour goal drought.
Acheampong has made nearly 100 league appearances for Anderlecht since signing in 2013, scoring 11 goals. The 23-year-old has made 12 appearances for his country, and is likely to be involved in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations. Acheampong can play wide, in attack or even as a wing back.
