Even though Leeds United continue to be linked to Maurício Isla by the South American media, it doesn’t seem the Whites are in a strong position in this chase.

The 32-year-old has just become a free agent following the end of his contract with Turkish side Fenerbahce. And since he’s played under Marcelo Bielsa for the Chilean national team, he’s one of the many players who’ve been linked to the newly promoted Premier League side in the past couple of weeks.

Argentine newspaper Olé brings an update on Isla’s situation today, mostly because Boca Juniors were one of the clubs who dreamed of his signing.

But the newspaper points out that the competition for him is pretty big. Quoting Chilean outlet CDF, they highlight the interest from Real Valladolid, then they add that other sides such as Real Betis, Valencia, Leeds United and Panathinaikos are all following him as well.

What makes Leeds look weak in the race is that Isla would like to play in Spain, and also has the desire to feature in European competitions.

Since the Whites can’t offer this, it sounds like a very difficult signing, unless Bielsa can make a phone call and convince the fullback.
