Last week, Werder Bremen confirmed their interest in signing Manchester United’s Tahith Chong.
On August 10th, the winger’s agent, Erkan Alkan told Bild that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has “kept his promise” to allow his client go out on loan this summer.
Alkan also added the Dutchman “really wants to join Werder”.
The Red Devils sealed a berth in the Europa League semi-finals after overcoming FC Copenhagen on Monday. Chong was on the bench and Bild reported it could be his last tie of this campaign.
According to WESER-KURIER, the Premier League side have ‘given the green light’ for the loan transfer, but when the deal will be concluded will depend on how far United will progress in the Europa League.
That differs from Bild’s suggestion that Chong could move this week.
The German side travel to Austria later this week, and will be there until August 25th. They were hoping to have Chong before their trip, so they’ll hope Bild are correct.
Chong’s representatives are in Germany negotiating with Werder, and the report adds talks with the player were conducted via video conference.
A general framework for the loan transfer has been verbally agreed between the two clubs, but the time frame of the temporary move needs to be sorted. The Bundesliga side would prefer to take the wideman on a two-year loan deal.
WESER-KURIER explain United will make a final decision on the duration of the temporary transfer, and Werder Bremen ‘will and must accept it without contradiction.’
