Inter Milan in recent years have always seemed a few games away from their next crisis and latest manager Frank De Boer is already teetering on the edge. Currently an unacceptable eleventh in Serie A, Inter have had a difficult season which hasn’t been helped by the circus surrounding captain Mauro Icardi.
De Boer himself, who left Ajax in the summer, may well be wondering what on earth he was thinking to take the job in the first place, but he could soon be put out of his misery.
Calciomercato report on Monday that Southampton could have a big say in De Boer’s future. Inter face Southampton in the Europa League on Thursday, and defeat, even with the game being in England, could lead to De Boer’s sack.
In preparation of Southampton potentially being the trigger, Inter are said to have been looking at alternatives already. Inter are ‘probing the availability of several coaches’ and one of those named is former Swansea City manager Francesco Guidolin.
Swansea City sacked the Italian earlier this month, despite him seeming to be on the verge of getting the team together, and going through a tough fixture period.
Since Guidolin’s exit, Swansea City haven’t won either of the next two matches and will be hoping that changes against Stoke on Monday night. Meanwhile, Southampton will be preparing to push De Boer ever closer to the edge.
