If there’s one thing we can always commend West Ham for during the transfer window, it’s their unmatched ambition when it comes to trying to sign strikers.
It paid off last year when they managed to convince Sébastien Haller to swap Eintracht Frankfurt for the London Stadium, but if you ask us, their latest attempt is going to be difficult to pull off.
That’s because, according to Corriere dello Sport, the Hammers have tried to get a deal started for Atalanta’s Duván Zapata.
Looking at Juventus’ options to bolster their attack for next season, the Italian newspaper start off by saying their ‘main objective’ is the Colombian, and a first offer of €30m + Mattia Perin was made.
That, however, has been rejected by Atalanta, ‘just like the attempts from West Ham’.
There’s no indication of how much they would actually want for the 29-year-old, but considering they are currently in the Champions League and qualified for next season’s edition of the competition, we just don’t see him wanting to ever swap his current club for, well, David Moyes and co.
That’s no slight on West Ham, it’s just Atalanta are now one of the most exciting sides in Europe under Gian Piero Gasperini, and with 19 goals scored in 30 games as well as eight assists, Zapata is thriving there.
Leaving for Juventus, we can get behind, but the Hammers? That would be a serious coup if they pulled it off, and we just can’t see it happening.
