With all the speculation surrounding his future and his contract renewal at Sevilla, you would expect that when Steven N’Zonzi is interviewed by AS, that would be the subject of conversation.
However, shutting down all talk about that particular topic, the Spanish magazine had to revert to discussing other things, like if Sevilla can win the title after their good start, or even Samir Nasri.
The Manchester City loanee has, as you’re probably bored of reading now, had a cracking start to the season since his move to La Liga, and the Spanish media are amazed by this.
Asked if he was surprised by his new teammate’s run of form, N’Zonzi’s answer was fairly straightforward.
He said: “He’s very important on the field and technically very strong. He’s played for a lot of big clubs. His level really isn’t surprising. I played against him a few times in England and I’ve never seen him have a bad game.”
Tracked by Leicester throughout the summer, the former Stoke midfielder’s €30m release clause has become a big worry for the La Liga club, and a return to England just isn’t on the cards.
Even if the subject wasn’t one he wanted to talk about, he still let slip: “I’m very happy here. I like the team, the fans, the manager…”
After Samir Nasri, N’Zonzi is the latest Sevilla hero following his decisive goal in a 1-0 win over Atlético last weekend, and he isn’t planning on throwing that away.
Understandable, really.
