Manchester City are eyeing up a double swoop for La Liga duo José Maria Giménez and Diego Carlos as they look to improve their defence this summer

Pep Guardiola is thought to be keen to strengthen his backline ahead of next season, with the position having been a problem one for them this year.

They have been linked with several defenders across Europe, and the latest names to add to the list are Giménez and Carlos according to El Desmarque.

The website covers reports in England that City are chasing Sevilla defender Carlos this summer and says that, according to their information, this is true.

Their sources have told them that Manchester City want to bring in two central defenders in this transfer window; Giménez from Atlético Madrid and Carlos from Sevilla.

Kalidou Koulibaly is also an option, backing up the numerous reports coming from Italy that they are chasing the Napoli defender.

In terms of Carlos, El Desmarque reports that Manchester City have already made ‘some surveys’ with both the defender and Sevilla.

The Brazilian is keen on the move and believes heading to the Etihad would allow him to take a step forward in his career, ‘acquire a great contract’ and put himself in contention for a call-up to the Brazil squad and the chance to go to the World Cup.

Sevilla, though, are not keen to lose one of their star players after his performances this season and have made it clear through intermediaries that a transfer ‘will not be easy’.

The positive for Manchester City is that they are the club that has ‘more real intentions’ for the player at this moment in time.

Barcelona are also keen but don’t have the finances for a move, while Bayern Munich, who have been linked in Germany, need to move players on first. If that happens, then they will enter the bidding.

Until that point City may have a clear run on the centre-back, although any departure from Sevilla will not be sorted in a matter of days.
