Even during the transfer off-season (you know, when actual football happens), there are too many rumours and articles published on a daily basis, meaning a few occasionally slip through our net.
One of these was from Monday, and involved Tottenham’s Nabil Bentaleb, currently on loan at Schalke 04 in Germany.
The Algerian midfielder, who didn’t fall in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans this season at the London club, was shipped out to the Bundesliga, and it certainly didn’t start very well.
The 21-year-old was accused of all sorts back in September by the local media as the German side lost their first five games of the season.
However, following a 4-0 victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach, this have turned around and Bentaleb is the new hero of Gelsenkirchen, scoring three goals in his last two games.
So much so, in fact, that the player has already agreed a future four-year deal with Schalke, at least according to Bild.
The German daily newspaper reported on Monday evening the Bundesliga club are already planning on using the €19m release clause in the loan deal to make the transfer a permanent one.
This doesn’t mean they will definitely get him, as Bild explain that if another club were to make a larger bid than the €19m, they would be allowed to do so, but Schalke would need to be immediately informed to give them the opportunity to match it.
It’s amazing what three games can do.
