This morning, we covered a report from Germany which said Chelsea are keen on signing Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen.
Outlet SportBild said the Blues are ‘ready to pay’ a ‘mega fee’ for the 21-year-old, who should cost over €70m this summer.
That’s undoubtedly a high price for a transfer, especially in a transfer window which is marked by a financial crisis caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Perhaps that’s also the reason why Chelsea won’t have a strong competition in the race for Havertz, and Italian outlet Calciomercato talks a little about it today.
The website first covers SportBild’s report to show that Chelsea seem pretty much convinced of spending all that money on the midfielder.
Then they claim that Juventus had also been interested on his signing, especially because manager Maurizio Sarri made public compliments to the player.
The problem is that the Old Lady can’t make an ‘investment of such magnitude’, mostly because they’ve already spent a lot this summer, and have a high wage bill to manage, including dealing with Paulo Dybala’s renewal.
That’s why Calciomercato considers that Havertz is ‘destined’ to join the Blues, who want another ‘star signing’ after snapping up Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
