Everton and Tottenham are showing ‘concrete’ interest in Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg should he leave the Saints this summer.
The Danish midfielder is currently in the first year of his deal at Saint Mary’s and, so far, has failed to agree to an extension.
That has already seen him stripped of the Southampton captaincy by manager Ralph Hasenhüttl as speculation about his future continues to mount.
Should he fail to agree to an extension, it would make sense for Southampton to sell this summer to ensure they don’t lose him on a free and several clubs have been named as suitors.
A report from England today stated Tottenham remained keen on his signature, while also adding Dutch side Ajax to his list of suitors.
This was later backed up by Voetbal International, who claimed that last season’s Champions League semi-finalists were ‘aiming’ to sign the midfielder this summer.
A move to the club made sense too, with the Dane having played under Ajax boss Erik ten Hag during his time in charge of Bayern Munich II.
#Ajax

VI also backed up the claim that Tottenham were ‘interested’ in Höjbjerg but have now added Everton to the mix as well.
Tweeting this afternoon, journalist Freek Jansen reported that Höjbjerg has ‘no complaints’ about the interest in him and that Ajax, Spurs and Everton were all ‘concrete’ at this point.
He, though, states that the Southampton man ‘seems to prefer’ a ‘longer stay’ in England, suggesting it is the Premier League duo he is eyeing up at this moment in time.
Everton’s interest is nothing new; indeed, Carlo Ancelotti has commented on it, but Jansen adding to the previous report suggests he’s been informed, following the initial article, that the Blues remain keen.
Where he ends up is likely to depend on numerous factors but what is clear, is that he won’t be short on options.
