Newcastle star’s father dismisses transfer talk – Insists ‘nobody’ has contacted his son

The father of Newcastle United Miguel Almirón has denied talk of a move to Atlético Madrid, dismissing them as rumours from Spain.

The Newcastle midfielder found himself linked to the Spanish giants last week, with rumours claiming Diego Simeone was eyeing up a move.

It was believed that the Argentine coach had ‘marked’ Almirón as a target and he would be presented with an opportunity to ‘take a major step forward’ in his career.

That rumour was quickly picked up on and spread in his native Paraguay, although a little digging from us here at Sport Witness discovered the whole thing had started courtesy of dubious Spanish website Fichajes.

That alone should have put the rumour to bed, and now his father has put another nail in the coffin.

Speaking to radio station 970 AM, relayed by La Nacion, he insisted there was ‘nothing from Atlético Madrid’ and that ‘nobody’ had contacted his son before dismissing the reports as nothing more than ‘a rumour from the Spanish press’.

That should put an end to this rumour once and for all, which didn’t really pick up much traction in the first place.

While the Newcastle man is clearly a talented player and is starting to come into his own in the Premier League at present, a move to Atlético always seemed unlikely at this point.
