Manchester United and Tottenham are ‘lurking’ in the background for Ivan Perišić should he not complete a permanent move to Bayern Munich.

The Croatian forward has been on loan at Bayern from Inter Milan since the summer, scoring six goals and registering eight assists in 28 games thus far.

The German giants had an option to turn his move into a permanent one for €20m, according to FussballTransfers but have allowed that to pass as they want to keep him for cheaper.

The website reports that they do not want to pay more than €10m for the 31-year-old, but Inter Milan are hoping for a fee of around €15m.

Thus, the two clubs need to find an agreement, and ‘further talks’ are expected to happen soon over a possible transfer.

However, if these ‘fail surprisingly’ – FT seem to believe a deal will be done at some point – Perišić could have two offers on the table from the Premier League.

They claim that Tottenham and Manchester United are both ‘lurking’ when it comes to the player and have ‘expressed interest’ in a move for him at some point.

Perišić, for his part, wants to stay at Bayern as, although he has only played a substitute role at best, he feels at home in Bavaria. He is waiting for Inter and Bayern to find an agreement.

If not, it seems there will be offers from England.

Manchester United’s apparent interest is nothing new given they have been regularly linked for two or more years.

Indeed, there was barely a week during José Mourinho’s time in charge in which there were not new reports indicating they would make a move, particularly during the World Cup in 2018.

They’ve died off since then, but he still seems retains an interest in him, and that is why Tottenham are now being named among his suitors too.
