Liverpool’s Brazilian stars Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho have both spoken to ESPN Brasil following the 0-0 draw against Manchester United last night.

Coutinho showed more disappointment about the result, saying the Reds were well prepared for the match. Asked if he was expecting a Liverpool win against Manchester United, he said: “For sure, we’ve come from a good sequence of victories. We came strong for this game.

“Unfortunately we didn’t win it, but we’re still in the fight, we are two points behind the teams on top, so we need to think of the next game, regain the points and keep it up.”

On Manchester United’s tactics, the 24-year-old said: “Very tall players, always playing long balls for them to win it in the air. We were expecting this. Maybe we didn’t create much, we tried to get through the middle and they were well closed. ”

Firmino also wanted the three points, but seemed more patient with the result: “The draw wasn’t what we wanted but a point will do for tonight”.

“The first half was very closed and fought, the second half was more open. Our team tried all the ways, we were even better, in my point of view. Unfortunately, we couldn’t win.”

From Coutinho’s comments it’s clear that in the Liverpool camp, the aims for this season are ambitious. There’s no pleasure taken from being within the Champions League qualifying places, Coutinho and Liverpool appear to be looking higher.

If the title is the aim then Jurgen Klopp will have to find a way to play against teams who alter their tactics to suit, because against Manchester United, Liverpool at times looked like they were stumped for ideas.
