Manchester United’s major target this summer is thought to be Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho. The 20 year old would likely be mainly used on the right, but he can move to the left if needed.
Dortmund will be tough in any transfer negotiations, so it makes sense for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to have alternatives ready should they need them.
And that’s where Ferran Torres could come in. Just like Sancho, he’s a 20 year old right footer, who mainly plays on the right but can also operate on the left.
The Valencia youngster has six goals and seven assists so far this season, and whilst that’s nowhere near Sancho’s level, he’s managed it for a Valencia side which has only scored 38 goals in La Liga this campaign, compared to 74 in the Bundesliga for Dortmund.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and Manchester City are all credited with interest.
Given Torres’ contract expires in June 2021, Valencia will be under pressure to sell in the next market, unless they manage to get a renewal.
Reading between the lines, it makes some sense if Torres is a back-up option, although the situation may not be quite as far down the road as claimed.
