For those who might not follow what goes on in Ligue 1, the name Luis Campos has been a vital ingredient in the Monaco revamp that started when Dmitry Rybolovlev bought the club in 2011.
Brought in in 2013 once the club had been promoted back into France’s top flight, the 52-year-old stayed as director of football until 2015, when he stepped down to become Vadim Vasilyev’s, the club’s vice-president, ‘special advisor’.
L’Equipe have an article covering all of this in their Friday edition, but it was something else in there that had nothing to do with Marseille, a small detail, that caught our eye, something to do with José Mourinho.
Luis Campos, prior to becoming Monaco’s director of football, was a scout for the ‘Special One’ at Real Madrid, and has been a close friend of the Manchester United manager for quite some time, earning his trust along the way, as well as that of super agent Jorge Mendes.
The French newspaper claim that, over the past few weeks, Campos had been working ‘freelance’ for José Mourinho, which, we can only assume, would have been about future recruits to bring to Old Trafford over the coming months.
Just a friend asking a friend for advice.
