It’s been a good start to the season for Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Presnel Kimpembe.
Going from benchwarmer under Laurent Blanc to regular starter for most of the start of the season, the 21-year-old also earned his first call-up to the France national team when Jérémy Mathieu announced his retirement.
The French club are fully aware such a rise over the past few months has attracted a lot of attention, and a new contract is trying to be sorted with his agent, but nothing has been signed as of yet.
The French newspaper say the current offer would see his salary go from €8k/week to around €25k/week net, yet the player wants to feel as valued as Adrien Rabiot, who earns just over €57k/week post tax.
Patrick Kluivert, who is said to be in charge of the negotiations, isn’t currently interested in negotiating, pointing at the small amount of appearances he’s made in all competitions (17) for the club as an excuse.
However, there’s also the worry the youngster might eventually leave if no deal is reached, with the Premier League very interested, including Liverpool.
Jürgen Klopp’s side have been linked with the young French defender a few times now, despite the Anfield contingent buying two centre-backs in the summer.
The German, however, is well known to enjoy having talented youngsters in his side, which Kimpembe definitely falls under, and if an opening appears, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Liverpool try and swoop in, alongside the other two clubs mentioned: Chelsea and Manchester City.
For the player, however, things are clear for now: he wants to stay in Paris.
