Yesterday, we brought to you an interview with Jonathan Kodjia from the Ivory Coast where the player was told of his new nickname given to him by fans of the national team, and they aren’t the only ones who have been impressed with the Aston Villa man.
Speaking to the press, and relayed by @[email protected], the Ivory Coast manager, Michel Dussuyer, only had good things to say about the striker, who got his third goal for his country in as many caps over the international break.
He said: “Jonathan Kodjia is an intelligent kid. He’s progressed a lot. He’s more mature, with a lot of potential. He can become an important player for any team. For now, he still has work to do. He still needs to progress to gain experience. He’s really a player with lots of potential.”
At 26, you could argue the ‘potential’ years of Kodjia’s career are behind him, but then again, a move to a bigger club like Aston Villa can only be beneficial for a player who has only played in Ligue 2 and the Championship.
With international experience and a vein of form under his belt now as well, Villa fans will now be hoping the player can provide the same consistency for his club, where he has struggled to find the back of the net since the start of the season.
The striker has only scored one goal and picked up one assist in 10 appearances so far.
