Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen was not a happy man after his Netherlands side lost 1-0 to France at the Amsterdam Arena. Janssen believes his side were harshly treated by the referee, and wasn’t afraid of telling it how he sees it.
The Netherlands had a few penalty appeals against France, but none of them were particularly strong, however Janssen sees it another way and the Tottenham player has been quoted by Voetbal International saying that when Laurent Koscielny touched the ball with his hand, it was a nailed on spot-kick.
“How you do not give such a penalty, I don’t know. I had the feeling that he was after us the whole game in one way or another.”
Arsenal’s Koscielny would surely argue it the other way, and most of those reporting on the match, and who watched it, would probably agree with the Frenchman.
Janssen’s anger was also motivated by genuinely bad decisions which have gone against the Netherlands in recent matches, feeling that right now they’re not getting the balance of decisions from referees.
As part of the same interview, the Tottenham player added: “That’s extra bad when you know that there was a crystal clear goal of Bas Dost that was rejected in the first match against Sweden. And on Friday against Belarus, it was perhaps not so important, but Virgil van Dijk was also not offside when he scored. Three games and three errors by the referee.”
