Watford have an option to bring back Pervis Estupiñán in the summer, with Atlético Madrid keen on his signature.
Earlier this week we covered a report from Fichajes that stated Diego Simeone had made the Watford defender his ‘number one goal’ for the summer as he looks for increased competition at left-back.
Diario de Navarra back up those claims today and report that there is a chance he can be sold, despite joining current club Osasuna on a two-year loan deal in the summer.
According to the newspaper, Watford have an option to bring Estupiñán back this summer under two conditions; they either plan to use him themselves or sell him to another team.
Part of the loan agreement states that if Watford recall him early to sell him, the Spanish side are due a percentage of the transfer plus an amount added by the ‘FIFA Solidarity Mechanism’.
Watford are considering simply recalling Estupiñán and using him themselves next season but, there is another factor that could come in to play.
At the moment Estupiñán is registered as a ‘foreign’ player for Spanish teams as he is Ecuadorian and thus takes up one of the three spaces permitted for each club.
However, the 22-year-old intends to apply for a Spanish passport and should this be granted; it would ‘open more doors’ for him and could increase the number of interested parties.
It would also add to his already growing transfer value; something Watford will be sure to contemplate once the summer comes around.
