At the end of the transfer window, the European media seemed to be full of reports of failed West Brom approaches for players.
Even after the window had closed there were repeated explanations of why West Brom deals failed, and the reasons were usually that it was too late, the offer was too low, or West Brom wanted to pay a fee in several stages rather than upfront.
However, one transfer that did come off was Nacer Chadli, and if the Belgian international continues as he’s started then it could well prove a masterstroke.
Chadli had been happy at Tottenham but had seen himself sidelined, and missing out on Belgium’s squad for Euro 2016 was the final straw. Moving to West Brom has allowed Chadli to get back in the Belgium squad and he may well have a chance in the absence of injured Kevin De Bruyne.
Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg have a look in their Thursday edition at which player could replace De Bruyne against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Chadli is given a 25% chance, Kevin Mirallas 35%, Dries Mertens 35% and Thorgan Hazard 5%.
The West Brom player is quoted as saying: “Of course I’m interested in that vacant spot. Otherwise I would have been better staying home. I want to be important for the Red Devils.
“That’s one of the reasons why I changed clubs this summer. When you’re 27 you cannot take peace with a place on the bench at a top club. That cost me the European Championship. Now I’m back in. Which proves that my choice for West Brom was the right one.”
