Arsenal transfer agreement allows club to pay €4m off their debts

 

Lucas Perez is a huge loss to Deportivo La Coruna, and the club’s local media have published many articles bemoaning the transfer.

Throughout all of that it’s been accepted that Depor pretty much had to welcome the sale because of the size of the club’s debt, and the need to start paying some chunks off.

Spanish newspaper Sport reports that thanks to the Arsenal deal, Depor have been able to bring their debt down.

It’s stated by Sport that Arsenal paid €20m for Perez. Of that, €6m went to Greek club PAOK as part of an agreement reached when Perez left them. Of the €14m remaining with Depor, €3.13m went to Spanish tax agencies, and €937,550 went to ‘various financial institutions’.

Whilst a healthier balance sheet can’t score goals for Deportivo La Coruna, it’s a step in the right direction to bring their debts down so they’re under less pressure to sell players in the future.

That won’t be much of a comfort for fans now though.
