It’s really getting to the stage now where the French media are running out of superlatives for Hugo Lloris.
The France and Tottenham captain, now 29, is now the record holder for the most caps as captain of the national team (58), overtaking his manager Didier Deschamps (54) during the former defensive midfielder’s tenure in charge.
L’Equipe look at who stands out as the leaders in this France team, and the Tottenham goalkeeper, described as the ‘exemplary captain’, stands out as the man to take them forward from Euro 2016 deception.
The French magazine describe him as ‘far more influential in the life of the squad than he appears to and exemplary off the pitch’, a feeling shared by his teammates, including Antoine Griezmann.
Speaking to L’Equipe a few days ago, the Atlético Madrid player said: “Hugo doesn’t speak that much, and keeps to himself more than Patrice Evra, but when he speaks, there’s a silence in the dressing room’.
When you can command that much respect just by your actions, and not your words, you’re doing something right, and the French press can’t get enough of it.
Now, as they say, all he needs is the trophies.
