Surprising rumours from Brazil on Thursday are linking Newcastle United to Fluminense youngster Marcos Paulo.
A report from Gazeta Esportiva says the Rio de Janeiro side aren’t confident the player will be with them for much longer, since it’s very likely he’ll leave in the European summer window.
Three clubs are said to be in the fight for his signing. The first one is CSKA Moscow, who already made a bid of €7m, which was rejected both by Fluminense and Marcos Paulo.
The 19-year-old is said to be hoping to play in a more attractive league, and that’s why he’s been waiting for other bids to come.
The second club is Barcelona, who sent representatives to see the player las year. Talks with the Catalan side are said to be in initial stages, although they’ve been making approaches for the signing.
Among the three, Newcastle United are considered to be the least favourites. There are no details on how far the Magpies have gone with their interest.
It’s said that Juventus have also been mentioned, but none of the parties have confirmed interest from the Old Lady. Considering this last information, we’d find it more likely that Newcastle’s chase is real.
