Very frustrated under Roberto Martinez at Everton last season, Kevin Mirallas has found a bit more joy on the field under Ronald Koeman, so much so that he’s now back in the Belgium squad, called up by, well, Roberto Martinez.
The forward, who has made eight appearances for the Toffees so far, scoring a goal and picking up an assist in the process, is celebrating his birthday on Wednesday, and, we can only assume as a present, had to speak to the Belgian press, including DH.
Talking about Everton’s start to the season, the player said: “I’m feeling good, the team are in good form, even if the last two games didn’t quite go to plan, but overall, everything is going well. We’re working hard. I hope we’ll continue to stay in the top five.”
Facing both Bosnia and Gibraltar in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers, the players know they will need to perform adequately in front of very demanding fans, who booed them when they lost 2-0 to Spain during the last break.
Mirallas explained: “We understand them, there’s the sadness from the Euros that was still there, and we didn’t exactly show great stuff against Spain, but we know they’re behind us, that they’ll fill the stadium to make some noise.
“After that, it’s up to us to do what we’ve done in the past, and that’s to play great football in this stadium.”
Entertaining football + good results = happy fans.
If only it were that easy, but after the 3-0 win over Cyprus that followed the loss to Spain, a bit of faith has been restored.
