Italian midfielder Andrea Lazzari has given his reasons why he signed for Pisa recently on a free transfer. The 31-year-old was linked with Leeds United in the summer after being released by Bari.

Speaking to Tutto Pisa, Lazzari was asked why he chose to sign for Pisa last month. The former Fiorentina player said the chance to be coached by World Cup winner Gennaro Gattuso was an opportunity he couldn’t turn down, and he’s glad he signed. Lazzari revealed he’ll play anywhere for the former AC Milan star, and do what he requests.

“They were weeks of waiting and hoping for this signature that has finally arrived. The words of Gattuso are just a pleasure, it is his passion that led me to make this choice. It does not matter where I play, I am training with a great desire and doing what the coach asks me,” said the Italian midfielder.

Lazzari was linked with a number of Italian clubs during the summer, and also in England with Leeds United. The footballer played under Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino during his 3 seasons with Cagliari, and during the last transfer window he hinted he would welcome a reunion with his former boss.

Whilst under Cellino at Cagliari the player made nearly 100 appearances before getting his big move to Fiorentina. The midfielder has also represented Italy U21s on 9 occasions.
