Looking all set to become one of the very first deals done and dusted of the transfer window, Michy Batshuayi’s departure form Marseille has dragged on way longer than we expected.
UEFA’s decision to selfishly put Euro 2016 slap bang at the start of the transfer window has caused a few delays in transfer proceedings, but it’s something we’re reluctantly going to have to live with.
Marseille are still looking to sell, and the price remains the same (around £31m), and Tuttosport on Thursday make it clear Juventus are very keen on him.
With Alvaro Morata returning to Real Madrid, the Serie A Champions will have €30m (minimum) to spend on a new striker, and with an extra €8-10m on top of that, they could end up affording the Belgian striker.
That is, of course, unless Premier League clubs don’t ‘accelerate’ the issue and step in with all their money before Juventus make their move.
Arsenal have been looking for a new prolific striker for about five years now, while Spurs are still looking for that elusive backup to Harry Kane.
Batshuayi would tick boxes for both clubs, having scored 23 goals and picked up 10 assists in 50 appearances for Marseille last season.
At 22, there is still a lot to come from Batshuayi, and with his pace and size, the striker has all the attributes to be a potential success in the Premier League.
The Guardian on Thursday reported West Ham’s offer from the beginning of May is also still on the table.
