When rumours start flying around that Roman Abramovich is prepared to invest another £100m or so into Chelsea football club, lists of potential targets are swiftly drawn up by the European media.
Understandably, Italy reckon a bunch of Serie A players will be targeted because of Antonio Conte being from there and all that, whereas the Spanish media feel La Liga will be the main league the manager will be looking at.
Sport on Monday reckon Antoine Griezmann is among those, but everyone already knew that from the numerous articles already written on the subject.
It’s the three other names on the list we’re going to focus on, and those are Sergio Rico, Steven N’Zonzi and Joao Cancelo.
The first two currently ply their trade at Sevilla, with Sergio Rico starting in goal for them, while the former Stoke midfielder has become a key player for the La Liga side since his transfer in 2015.
So much so, in fact, that Everton are also reportedly interested in signing the 27-year-old defensive midfielder.
As for Joao Cancelo, the Valencia right-back would certainly add an attacking flair down that right-hand side compared to the more defensive approach offered by Branislav Ivanovic, who was left on the bench for the 2-0 victory over Hull at the weekend.
There have been many rumours of Conte wanting to revamp the squad, and these three (or four with Griezmann) would certainly do that, yet we have a few issues with this.
Firstly, Griezmann isn’t going anywhere, at least not until next summer, and secondly, signing a new goalkeeper when you already have three at the club (Courtois, Begovic and Eduardo) makes little sense.
But that’s just us.
