Gareth Bale is now playing his fourth season at Real Madrid, but it could very well be his last season, reports Spanish media outlet Diario Gol.
Diario Gol say Gareth Bale is not enjoying the limelight at Real Madrid as much as he’d have hoped for, and has been in the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The former Tottenham star could apparently force his departure next summer, if Ronaldo doesn’t step aside.
The Spanish website claim Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett already met Manchester United at the end of last week.
Jose Mourinho and Ed Woodward attended the meeting on behalf of Manchester United, and Adidas are also reportedly endorsing Bale’s move to Manchester United, despite them also being the shirt sponsors of Real Madrid.
The Welsh star is likely to demand gross wages of €20m/season, but Real Madrid also want to renew his contract.
However, Bale could wait till next summer to make a decision on his future, and it remains to be seen if Real Madrid would be interested in selling him.
A little digging shows Diario Gol are based in Barcelona, which may explain why they’d wish to write unsettling Bale stories. The former Tottenham player has been repeatedly linked with a Real Madrid exit since soon after arriving, but, despite claims otherwise, he’s always appeared very happy.
Manchester United were linked with Bale when he was at Southampton, and then again when he was at Tottenham. The romantic notion of him taking over from compatriot Ryan Giggs didn’t ever come to fruition, and that was largely down to Bale wanting the Real Madrid move.
Tottenham cashed in, and Manchester Untied continue to be linked with the player ahead of every transfer window.
