Genk suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool in the Champions League tie on Tuesday.
Despite the loss, the Jupiler Pro League side walked out of Anfield with their heads held high. Sander Berge had a good game against the Merseyside club and his display in the European competition impressed Jürgen Klopp.
According to Norway’s VG, the former Borussia Dortmund boss was pleased with the midfielder’s performance and he expressed his interest in the 21-year-old, while having a conversation with him.
Amongst other things, the German coach told Berge that he’s a ‘very interesting player’.
The Norway international played the full 90 minutes against Liverpool in both the group stage fixtures and left a ‘very good impression’ on the English club’s manager.
However, he said: “It was a great moment. It is nice. You take it with a smile. It is nice that such a reputable coach comes and says something like that.
“But overall, it’s the team performance I’m happy with. We go ahead, get up and play evenly with Liverpool throughout the match. That’s what matters most.”
VG adds Berge’s Mike Kjølø and Morten Wivestad were in attendance at Anfield.
During the game, the Belgian commentator stated the player will leave Genk in January as the latter have an agreement with an unnamed club. However, these claims were denied by Genk’s sports director Dimitri De Condé.
Berge is very highly rated and there’s no reason why he can’t be a potential Liverpool signing going forward.
