Manchester United attacker Juan Mata has been selected in Gazzetta dello Sport’s European Team of the Week for last weekend’s round of matches.

Each week the Italian newspaper selects the best eleven from players outside of Serie A, and this week Mata has been picked after his performance against Leicester City on Saturday.

Along with Paul Pogba, Mata was one of Manchester United’s best players in his side’s 4-1 win over the Premier League champions. The Spaniard was brought in as Jose Mourinho started Wayne Rooney on the bench, and he repaid this faith with an impressive display. The former Chelsea star managed to get himself on the scoresheet, and tormented Leicester City throughout the game.

Other notable players in this week’s team were Tottenham Hotspur’s Heung-Min Son, Arsenal’s Héctor Bellerín and Bayer Leverkusen’s Javier Hernandez.

When it was announced Mourinho would be replacing Louis van Gaal there were doubts put on the future of Mata at Old Trafford.

The Manchester United manager had previously sold Mata when he was in charge at Chelsea, and it was expected he would do the same in the last window.

However, Mata has been part of Mourinho’s plans so far in this campaign, and he will find it hard to drop him after his display on Saturday.
