Norway face Spain and Romania in the Euro 2020 qualifiers and Lars Lagerbäck hasn’t picked Mohamed Elyounoussi for the two international fixtures scheduled in October.
The Southampton owned player struggled under Ralph Hasenhüttl in the second half of the last season and Saints allowed him to join Celtic on a loan deal in the final days of the summer window.
Since joining the Scottish Premiership champions, the attacker has been on the pitch for less than 200 minutes, which came from three appearances.
According to VG in Norway, Elyounoussi’s temporary move to Celtic Park has ‘not been a great success’ so far.
His exclusion from the national team for the upcoming international fixtures should come as an indication for the same.
Elyounoussi was ready for further development, but VG claim injuries and Hasenhüttl replacing Mark Hughes at Southampton hindered his progress.
Lagerbäck still selected him for Norway in the first half of the last season since he thinks the attacker is an important player. He was one of the first names in the national team squad when the manager took over in 2017.
Elyounoussi needs to improve his situation at Celtic.
