Fabián Ruiz has been in fine form for Napoli since joining them from Real Betis in 2018.

Prior to his switch to Italy, Barcelona were one of the clubs interested in the midfielder, but they failed to sign him on several occasions. The first time they failed was in 2017 when the transfer fee was around €6m.

Earlier this month, Mundo Deportivo reported the La Liga winners are still interested in the Naples star and would now have to pay around €60m to acquire his services.

Over the past few days, reports coming out of Spain and Italy talked about Barca technical secretary Eric Abidal travelling to Italy to watch Napoli’s 4-1 victory over Lecce at the latter’s home stadium.

Fabián got his name on the scoresheet, with his side’s third goal of the tie.

Mundo Deportivo journalist Miguel Rico explains there was one ‘detail’ about the player that did not please Abidal.

After Fabián’s celebration, he was seen making a gesture in front of Lecce fans, which angered the home supporters and Rico believes this should have been avoided by the Spaniard.

It’s surely unlikely this would have much of an impact on Barcelona interest, however, Rico clearly believes it’s a negative point.
