Despite only being at West Ham for two seasons, Marko Arnautović left his mark on the Premier League club.
Whether that mark is good or bad is debatable, as he certainly impressed with some of his performances in the claret and blue shirt, but the manner of his exit to Shanghai SIPG in the summer didn’t go down too well.
Already wanting to leave in January for the large paycheque the Chinese club were offering him, the Austrian was blocked by West Ham, eventually signing a new contract and publicly committing to his future at the London Stadium.
However, when the summer transfer window came around, the interest returned, and things got ugly once more, with the Hammers eventually getting rid and replacing him with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Sébastien Haller.
At international level, however, that isn’t the case, with Wojciech Szczęsny the number one, but Arnautović feels that should change.
He told Polsat Sport: “He is a fantastic person and a great goalkeeper. Players from the team asked me about him. He had an amazing season last year at West Ham. He deserves to be the first goalkeeper in the Polish national team. I hope he will continue to do well at the club. I wish him all the best”.
