After an impressive first season back in the Premier League, Wolves did not hesitate to splash the cash this summer.
Nuno Espirito Santo focused on further bolstering his attack, not only signing Raul Jimenez on a permanent transfer but also securing Patrick Cutrone from AC Milan and Pedro Neto from Lazio.
It showed the Portuguese boss wanted to build and maintain his side’s attacking instincts and it seems those three forwards were not the only additions they considered.
According to El Desmarque, Wolves were also interested in a move for PSV Eindhoven’s Steven Bergwijn this summer.
Bergwijn managed 15 goals and 13 assists in 41 games for PSV last season, earning him attention from around Europe.
He was linked with several clubs, including Manchester United, and it seems Wolves can now be added to the list of suitors.
Desmarque claim they, as well as Everton, showed interest in the 21-year-old but it ‘slipped away’, presumably as both clubs went and signed other targets.
Bergwijn was then left looking at other destinations, and was heavily linked with Sevilla, but has now signed a new and improved deal to keep him at PSV and, for the time being at least, end any talk of him heading to the Premier League.
