Having failed to land a replacement for Romelu Lukaku over the past two transfer windows, Everton made sure that wouldn’t be the case this summer.
Signing a striker was a priority for the Toffees, who eventually pulled off one of the coups of the summer when they got Moise Kean from Juventus.
The young Italian was seemingly not the only striker the Blues were looking at, though, with Goal Spain reporting they were keen on Valencia striker Rodrigo.
They report that Everton presented the striker with ‘a good offer’ this summer, but he turned them down as he did not view a move to Goodison Park as a step up from Valencia.
Everton weren’t the only club he turned down either, with Napoli, another interested party turned away for the same reason.
There’s no mention of any negotiations with Valencia, or the price they may have offered, although it’s safe to assume they were confident of getting it done given they approached the player with an offer.
Still, it goes to show how hard Everton pushed to get a striker this summer and how highly they set their sights when trying to do so.
