Earlier on Wednesday we covered claims from L’Equipe that Watford were closing in on Ismaïla Sarr, yet still having problems reaching a final agreement with Rennes.
The French newspaper said the 21 year old had already agreed a five year deal with the Premier League club, so would be ready to travel as soon as a transfer fee was agreed.
L’Equipe explained Watford have been ready to offer €30m plus a further €5m in bonuses, but Rennes were said to want €37m.
The French club’s president Olivier Letang met Giampaolo Pozzo in Rome yesterday, with the aim to come to an agreement. They didn’t manage to do so, and time is running out.
Since then, TMW have reported Sarr is ‘a step away’ from Watford, in a deal which would be worth €32m.
They don’t say anything about bonuses, and one would assume, if L’Equipe were correct, that Watford have upped their €30m base offer to €32m and kept the €5m in bonuses, therefore allowing Rennes to get the €37m they want.
TMW say the clubs could close their agreement tonight. However, they then say Sarr and Watford would try to find an agreement… which L’Equipe reported has already happened.
