Reportedly interested in Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson earlier on in the transfer window, West Ham continue their quest for a new player in that department.
Their search led them to Valentin Rongier, according to France Football, currently playing at FC Nantes and allowed to leave if the right offer comes along.
Touted as a replacement for the aforementioned Sanson at Marseille, the French midfielder became a recent target for the London Stadium club, but they are now said to have baulked at his price tag.
France Football explain West Ham ‘quickly withdrew themselves’ from talks with the Ligue 1 side, deeming the amount they asked for Rongier as ‘excessive’.
At 24 years of age, the versatile midfielder is ready to take the next step in his career after scoring four goals and picking up six assists in 36 league appearances last season, but if Nantes are demanding a big fee that even a Premier League club feel is over the top, he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
